A Grandmother’s Stitch, a Granddaughter’s Wedding

Every so often, we hear a story that reminds us why stitching is more than just needle and thread—it’s love carried across generations.

Connie recently shared a beautiful journey with us that we’re honored to retell here. Connie’s mom spent countless hours completing a wedding cross stitch sampler with the heartfelt words, “May our wedding day…” stitched carefully into place. But one detail was left undone: the names of the bride and groom, and the date. Sadly, Connie’s mom passed away in February 2023, before she could finish this special piece.

As her granddaughter’s wedding day quickly approached—just two weeks away—Connie was determined to fulfill her mom’s promise. The stitched piece had gone missing for a time, but like treasures often do, it was eventually found.

Now, Connie just needed one last thing: the exact DMC floss number for the lettering, so she could complete her mother’s work and gift it to her granddaughter on her wedding day. This isn’t just about finishing a sampler—it’s about carrying on a legacy of stitches, memories, and love.

And what makes this story even more touching? Connie’s granddaughter is also a stitcher. In fact, she once won Grand Champion in 4-H with a snowman cross stitch piece. Stitching clearly runs in the family, connecting grandmother, mother, and granddaughter through creativity and care.

Stories like Connie’s remind us that the charts, threads, and fabrics we use aren’t just supplies—they’re the building blocks of family history. With each stitch, we preserve love and create heirlooms that will be treasured for generations to come.

Connie, thank you for sharing this heartfelt journey with us. We’re honored to help keep the stitches of your family’s story alive.
